Affectionately known at the Sac State Sigmas, there are lots of sororities and fraternities which carry the appellation of sigma in their name. One of the favorite houses at Sac State is the sorority known as Sigma Theta Psi. They pride themselves on their multicultural inclusiveness and every year host a campus-wide event which they like to call “Culture Shock.” At this well-attended event the sorority creates a venue in which the students at Sac State can come in contact with the large variety of people from many different backgrounds.
The guiding principles at Sigma Theta Psi are Honesty, Loyalty, Respect, Open-mindedness, Leadership and Academic Excellence. Under the banner of these principles this sorority has made it their mission to educate whoever they meet about breast cancer, the importance of early detection, and imperative to support organizations which help support research and awareness.
In order to stay in the sorority students must maintain a 2.0 grade point average. The colors of the house are purple, black and gold, and the flower is the orchid. The motto is “Empowering Women of Diversity,” and it was founded in 1991.
